Weekend Warriers

I am involved in getting Baby Boomers back into bands across Australia with the WEEKEND WARRIORS. Started in Brisbane 2001 and is like a bush fire across Australia ...

We have been appoached by local Brisbane City Council to deliver a similar programme. We have called it - COME TOGETHER (yes... as in the Beatles song!!) If any of your Baby Boomers want to "re live" their youth through music from the '50's, '60's 70's. 80's and now......always thought they were too old (rubbish!!) - 100's are now doing it for the first time all over Australia ...and it is growing fast. 15,000 new players by 2006 - all for Recreational Music making...! (the rock legend's live on in their own lunch boxes!!)

Check out various articles here - http://www.weekendwarriors.org.au/ and LET everyone know about this new programme .....these are all for lovers of music.........

A new exciting recreational music making activity programme initiated by the new BRISBANE OUTER FRINGE FESTIVAL, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane 's Classic Hits RADIO 4KQ.
Remember when ROCK was young? Me and Susie had so much fun??

Live rock and rock 'n roll bands are comin' back to the 'burbs! .....and you get to be the star - the legend - bask in the spotlight, meet "like - minded" people while you perform in a live band playing the music you enjoy - ALL FOR FUN!! Fun is our number one priority!

Invite your family, neighbours and friends to see you on stage - because you are about to have an adventure of a life time. It's time to dust down the old guitar, blow the cobwebs off the drumkit and get back to where you once belonged.

Brisbane's Classic Hits Radio 4KQ and Brisbane City Council proudly presents - "COME TOGETHER"
What is it?

"Come Together" is a new exciting FOUR week program where you can meet other people who play a musical instrument or enjoy singing. Even if you've just started, you can come together in front of your family and friends at a huge concert, as part of band and be part of the Brisbane Outer Fringe Festival. Be the "Rock Legend" you have always dreamed of being - all for loads of FUN, friendships, active music making and a great time.

Who can participate?
If you enjoy playing or singing music from the '50's, '60's, '70's and '80's and are tired of performing on your own we have the gig for you. Get together with others in your community who also want to join a band and be part of a live performance. Your kids and friends will treat like a star - a legend in your own lunch box!!

We do all the hard work - supply all the gear, the instruments, a musical coach, rehearsal space, the road crew and the concert. You just turn up and have some fun! The average age of participants is 40 - 60 years young. Both men and women are invited to be part of the fun. We DO expect you can play three chords and have a good attitude for having some fun!! You DO NOT have to be able to read music.

How do I get involved?
It's Eee-ee-asy. Attend a FREE introductory JAM session to meet everyone. Our coaches and crew can also meet you. You will be given an enrolment form, play a few songs and then make up the bands. Please don't miss this important event. See the back of the brochure for dates, venues and times.

How much time do I have to give up?
Not much at all. We do expect you to commit at least TWO hours a week (for three weeks) for rehearsals and then attend the concert. This will be a journey and an adventure that will bring back the memories and good times of making music in a band - if you have never experienced it - then we say - have a go!!

COME TO A JAM and find out how to "COME TOGETHER" in your community
How much does it cost?

The fee is $65 per person. (This is not due until you are placed succesfully in a suitable band)
What other people have said about their involvement in music programs similar to "Come Together"

"I honestly had the TIME OF MY LIFE - I will NEVER forget it! To play with other musos again in front of a huge and very enthusiastic crowd was nothing short of miraculous!
I LOVED IT! - Rock and roll lives on!!" - Leigh W

"Come Together" will provide me with an opportunity to make music, any music, which I think is one of the most joyous things a person can do. It gives me the confidence to play with other people and to believe that I can improve as a player. And, the program gives you the gig you thought you might never have had! To have a room full of people up and dancing to the music you make will be the biggest buzz. Everyone's a winner! - Tony M

Acacia Ridge (Algester) Brisbane City Councillor Kevin Bianchi states, " Come Together as part of the new event - Brisbane Outer Fringe Festival - is a wonderful way to bring the communities, businesses and individuals together for some fun through supporting live music making in the outer suburbs of Brisbane. Encouraging a healthy activity which is inclusive and accessible to many in the suburbs. Come out and support these great activities".
