The Elvis Impersonator

We were still enjoying our stay at the Heartbreak Hotel, but the breakfast included is only a Continental style and while it was more than adequate, we were looking for something a bit more substantial on our second morning.

There are a number of cafes on Graceland Crossing, interspersed with the museums, clothing and souvenir stores, but the best to visit is the Rock’n’Roll Cafe which is closest to the Heartbreak Hotel and at the quieter end of the hustle and bustle of the crossing.

We went there for breakfast on the second morning of our stay and had a great breakfast. They have a wide selection and their breakfast menu is served all day, so it doesn’t matter if you are a late riser. In addition they have a separate southern style lunch and dinner menu, and the breakfast dishes come with a choice of one, two or three eggs!

While we were there our waitress pointed out that the café is home to Elvis impersonator, Joe Kent, who has evening shows Wednesday to Sunday nights for just a $12 cover charge. The café’s dinner menu had some good southern comfort food on the list, so we decided to catch the next night’s show and have a meal as well.

Joe Kent (photo) would not win an Elvis look-alike contest, but he is a showman and he sings just like the King. He blends his songs with a bit of light-hearted banter and a few jokes and it is well worth the admission. The show got better as the night wore on and as Joe warmed to the audience. The finale was a glitzy tribute to the good old US of A and this segment really had the audience on their feet.

It is a great value for money night within easy walking distance to the Heartbreak Hotel.
