| Bonza Life Newsletter for Baby Boomers- January 2010 |
|
New Year is a time for resolutions and a time for change. What better time could you choose to change your life than a new decade?
Why should you change? Because we Boomers will put a huge strain on governments over the coming four or so decades and we need to be aware of that.
It starts this year as the first of the Boomers turn 64 and go on the Aged Pension. Yes, women who were born in 1946 are eligible for pension this year and the government starts to feel the Ageing flood and its devastating outcomes.
This is the first time in history so many will be in the aged category and will reach close to one-third of the population at some stage.
We need to be aware, on the ball and active so we are not left behind and feel isolated.
You need to go to a basic computer course if you can not use one and learn how to google on internet so you can see the vast amount of information available to you.
I am aware that you all have some computer skills if you are a subscriber but have your friends, siblings or parents? Print this off and encourage them to learn and become part of the Info Age.
Learning how to use a computer will open up a whole new world for you. You can do TAFE courses or hobbies on line and you can shop on line.
You can talk to your friends on email or send them photos. Once you have started doing it, you will feel that you are a part of this modern world.
Stop being a dinosaur and hiding behind your fears, a computer is good fun and we don’t have to be experts as it is not for a job, it is to give us a life.
Find out what is happening in your Boomer world and the changes that will be needed by following this site. We will bring you all the Boomer Issues and how they will affect you.
Pass your opinion in our blog site so the government is aware of what you think.
Email this newsletter to a Boomer friend so we are all kept informed.
We can not change the course of time but we can change the outcomes and make our lives as positive as possible.
Learn how to use a computer or you will be isolated. We live in an INFO world now not the Industrial one we knew as teenagers and young adults.
Don’t waste time as it is precious and make IT your purpose each day in 2010.
Life churns on so make it a BONZA one!
NOTE:
BONZA advocates for:
- Mature Age Leave for over 50s so they can have some quality time out from their workplace and freshen up doing interest things.
- Over 50s need a separate government office, Maturelink, to highlight the importance of Mature Age looking to Move Forward in life not plan for retirement only in our older years. This is even more essential now we have to work to 67.
- A need for incentives from government for families to build granny flats for the aged care of family members at home. A family approach to an Ageing Australia in line with European and Asian cultures.
- A need for Community Health Clinics that the aged can attend and not clog the hospital system just as we had some priority at birth due to our numbers.
- A strong community based program for aged to take an interest in the local community through supporting schools, group exercising, supporting welfare groups and strong social clubs for the aged.
- Government incentives to allow us to retain/build assets so that we can support ourselves more as we age.
- Developments of the Uni of the Third Age so that minds are kept active through study and research.
- Break Centrelink up into a smaller office. Aged Pension to Retirement Offices, Familes to Medicare (completely), Disabled to revamped CRS offices, Youth to Youthlink (could be in Centrelink with Maturelink so mentor roles are easier) and Newstart to Job Network who could also pay them when there is compliance with job seeking.
- Skills for the Bush project. A database of jobs available in Regional Australia set up through Local Govt so that over 50s can work their way around Australia. This would fit in well with the Mature Age Leave concept.
- A Mature Age Policy for every workplace so employers can offer loyal staff some incentive to keep going. They will need their skills as the skill shortage approaches.
- A referendum to decide whether euthanasia should be part of Australian life.
Lots to do folks so let’s get on with it and have a BONZA LIFE!
